Conserving Carolina Speaker Series: Are You BearWise? In-Person
Etowah Library
Speaker: Tanya Poole, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Conservation Initiatives Engagement Coordinator
Staff with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will discuss the natural history of black bears in WNC and how you can use that information to safely coexist with these North Carolina treasures. BearWise, now a national program, started as a southeastern initiative to teach people how to safely coexist with bears. It provides ways to prevent conflicts, provides resources to resolve problems, and encourages community initiatives to keep bears wild. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
Tanya Poole is a Conservation Initiatives Engagement Coordinator with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. She has a 20-year career with the agency as an educator. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University and a Master's degree in Environmental Education from Montreat College.
