Bestselling author Dolen Perkins-Valdez will speak about her new novel.
Happy Land tells the story of The Kingdom of the Happy Land, a community established in the late 1800s by freed slaves near Hendersonville. Happy Land is told in alternating timelines through the perspective of the Queen of the Happy Land and a present-day descendant who learns about her family's ties to the vanished Kingdom.
