Textiles in the Stone Age

Textiles in the Stone Age In-Person

Etowah Library

Humankind's use of fiber predates the wheel, pottery, and even the advent of farming. The study of textile history is a form of detective work, piecing together fragments of the past from limited and often fragile evidence. Natural fibers like linen, cotton, and wool degrade over time, leaving only scarce remnants behind. To uncover their historical use, researchers must turn to clues from diverse fields such as linguistics, paleobiology, and anthropology. This lecture explores some of the most significant discoveries of surviving textiles-- and the remarkable stories they reveal.
