Twelve Didn't Come Home: The Story of Henderson County's MIAs In-Person

Main Library

In honor of Veterans Day, Henderson County Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206 is presenting a talk about Henderson County's MIAs.

Twelve Henderson County servicemembers are still Missing in Action (MIA) from World War II. This talk will cover how they were lost, what efforts the U.S. Government is taking in finding them, and how you can help in their recovery.

Also discussed will be the recovery of Marine PFC Luther Rhodes' remains, which were identified in September 2025. Rhodes, a Henderson County native, was killed in the fighting on Guadalcanal in October 1942. He has been missing in action for 83 years but will be coming home soon.

The Speaker is Bob Johnson, a retired Army Major, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, and a prolific writer of military history. Bob is the current Commander of Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206 in Hendersonville, NC.
